Total Impulse Buy: Desktop Humidifier

Guys, I’m having MAJOR financial issues this week related to benefits and retirement and paperwork and computer systems. In short, I’m a financial disaster lately. Well, not a disaster like a hurricane or a terrible earthquake where people die and horrible tragedies occur, but more like a really bad windstorm that knocks the shingles off your roof and then you have to spend hours on the phone with the insurance company to fix it. Yeah, kind of like that.
More on that this weekend (I’m way too fired up about it and embarrassed at myself to write about it today) but for now, a quick look at the caboose on today’s financial train wreck: I made this total impulse buy and am kind of regretting it.
Behold, a $65 desktop humidifier that I could have bought on Amazon for $50:
Can you see it? That little guy, with the water bottle, in front of the big printer and next to the old-school rolodex? Yeah. $65. I thought it was going to be like $25. I would have returned it but the owner gave me a free bottle of water with the purchase and I felt like a jerk turning around and saying “no thanks!” once the price came up. I bought it because my co-worker was raving about how great hers was and since my nose has been constantly… um… bloody (gross!)… and I usually get really bad sinus infections about this time of the year. As soon as I saw hers, I ran out and bought one instead of pricing it out and shopping around. My only saving grace is that I figure I’ll be using it for years, so after only $65, it will be a dollar a day item.
To make matters worse, my boss informs me that he found a similar model online for like $30 just now. Oy. (Shakes head.) I am a dunce.

I have never seen one of those before. Can you tell a difference?
Allergy season is here for us too, and sinus infections run amuck, they are horrible.
I use my netti pot but I would love to know if it works.

Every once in a while I make a purchase that I regret. And I either return it, or obsess and beat myself up over it (metaphorically speaking, of course).
We all make mistakes. I have to remind myself of that. So, just learn from it. Next time you feel like you want to buy something, remember the feeling you got this time.
And I’m also curious, is it doing a good job keeping you all humidified?

Hey gang,
I turned it on midway during the day – I was really dehydrated and didn’t drink enough water today so kind of hard to tell – I’ll have to report back tomorrow!

Sometimes you just have to buy things without looking at the best deal. It’s for your health and that is more important than any sale. It’s not like you overspend by hundreds.
Next time you go out to eat choose a cheaper meal and for the next few days pack your lunch and it will make up for it.
