Suprises Galore

Two of my best friends got engaged last night! I am absolutely thrilled for both of them and their respective fiancees. It’s such a great feeling to know that friends are happy, even if they live far away. My group of friends has so much to be thankful for, and they’re all coming to Chicago next weekend to celebrate the good news!
This, combined with several other upcoming weddings for family and friends, means I’ll be posting a lot about keeping wedding costs on a budget (as a guest). Weddings, showers, bachelorette parties and rehearsal dinners can add up to a pricey bill. It’s important to maintain a strict budget while providing your friends and family with meaningful gifts and sentiments as you share in their special day. With some luck and a lot of discipline, I think we’ll be able to pull off the balancing act.

Excellent news! And I’m so happy you will be discussing budgeting as a wedding guest. Two relatives are marrying this summer–that means two weddings, two gifts, two trips. I look forward to your insite.
I also want to tell you that I really like your blog. I’ve had quite a bit of trouble in the past with budgeting–everytime I get money (or we, my husband, too) I spend it. I have nothing to show for years of work. And unfortunately, while my husband is frugal, I’m not. He would have saved lots of money. But I spent it all. So, I’ve been inspired to budget, and we’re doing better! Although, with all of our debts, we are now only breaking even. I expect that soon it will get better–we have almost paid off one of our credit cards!
Thanks for this website!

Good topic. I went to two weddings last fall. One was pretty cheap, one cost waaay more than I wanted to spend.
My sister is getting married this summer. Just got tickets for myself, my spouse, and our kid–all frequent flyer! Yesssss.
I’m just reclaiming all those years of United Mileage Plus Visa annual fees ($60/year) that I paid to rack up all those miles before I clued in that cashback cards were better.

Wow, this must put pressure on your boyfriend
When me and my wife were dating and her friends would get engaged I’d have to suffer for a few days because she’d get mad because we didn’t get engaged
I went to a wedding last year and it was expensive! I was in the wedding party and had to travel, so it added up.

Fantastic news! I am among the late bloomers of my friends, and having been to most of their weddings I can affirm that being a guest, and especially a member of the wedding party can be a budget buster!
I just bought the ring for my girlfriend (God willing, soon to be Fiancee) yesterday!
I actually wrote a long post about it on my blog if anyone wants to read about it.
Anyway, great blog!
