Itchy Hands

2012 has brought with it a new problem: Itchy hands.
Despite my pledge not to buy any more lotions, soaps, or bathroom products until everything I already own is empty, I went ahead and spent $20 on this:
I didn’t have any coupons, and I probably paid more than I should have. But my hands ITCHED, yo.
I tried everything in my house, from Cetaphil to shea butter, Benadryl gel to cortizone cream. I even was taking antihistamines. And still, the itch came. I tried icing my fingers, but all they got was more itchy, dry, and bumpy. Then after I scratched, they got inflammed and kind of swollen and hot. I thought I was touching something I was allergic to, but couldn’t pinpoint the source. It was driving me crazy.
And then, two eczema sufferers told me it sounded a lot like eczema. My sister-in-law showed me the bumps on her hands, which looked suspiciously like mine. She recommended I try the Aveeno Eczema Therapy lotion and miraculously, for $12.99 and no doctor’s appointment, the itch has finally subsided. I bought the Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash for $6.99 too, which seemed to work well and not irritate anything. Phew!
So, I may or may not have a little case of eczema. But at least I no longer have itchy hands.

I use Aveno and it is totally worth the cost. There are coupons for this in the paper every few weeks!

I misspelled Aveeno. Oops!

I will keep an eye out for them. I just needed to buy the lotion then and there before I started scratching my skin off!

I DID look for coupons before I went to the store, I just didn’t find any

I get eczema on my hands and body all of the time. Is the cream thick?
February 6th, 2012 @ 1:27 pm
Yes, it’s thick. They say you should put it on right after your shower for best results. I’ve been using it all day.

Amy, it’s thicker than the cetaphil I use, and the eucerin.

How do you spell “relief”?
Aveeno.
Glad you found something that works.

I have had eczema and atopic dermatitis since age 2…I am 47 now. The Aveeno product line is the best it has ever been. Your choice of products were great for your hands. If your skin flares up again…the Aveeno line of baby products is cheaper and actually works faster than the adult care products. I have tried dozens of their lotions/creams my entire life. I am using Aveeno hair products and the facial line as well. I would not ever feel pretty without Aveeno.

THank you!

Totally worth it.

Okay, gonna sound completely weird…but my mom just started going wheat-free and swears up and down that her eczema on her hands and wrists has cleared up! I’m not ready to give up even more foods (I’m already lactose intolerant and on a budgeting diet as well, so to speak), but I found that very interesting!

Michelle – It’s not weird. Eczema is related to allergies and the immune system. Did she get tested for celiac? My celiac test came out negative but I still think I may be sensitive to wheat. I’m already sensitive to dairy.
