Vacation Needed

Me, taking a barefoot break from hiking last summer.
Happy Monday. Do you know where I would like to go this Monday? On a vacation to some mountains or an ocean. Do you know where I will go instead? To work. No new vacations planned. None. This saddens me. We are trying to be very good about savings (since man-friend is only working part-time) but haven’t been out west since June, and that was for a wedding. Though our vacations are always budget vacations, I rather enjoy spending weeks, even months, planning them. It’s fun to go to our local Borders and spend time thumbing through travel books to pick exciting new destinations, plan long hikes, hunt for the best cheap hotels, and get through the week by daydreaming about the adventure ahead.
Instead, all I have to get excited about for the foreseeable future is a long, cold Chicago winter. I can’t even thumb through the travel books because all our local bookstores have closed.
Stupid recession.
We do have two local trips planned – one this weekend to St. Louis, where I will run my first half-marathon with a cousin, and the following week a weekend camping overnight just across the Michigan border.
It’s something, but it really doesn’t satisfy my wanderlust.
I crave crisp, cool mountain air, the thundering sound of waves crashing onto rocks, the exquisite exhaustion a full day of hiking brings, vivacious interactions with wildlife, the sight of a sky full of stars, dinners of fresh local seafood, even the delight of meeting fellow travelers along the road and sharing stories in the quiet comfort of the outdoors.
Sigh. Like many things, I guess that will have to be on hold for just a bit longer.

Great picture! What is the location?
Yes, many things are put on hold. Barely a free weekend while working and going to school. Hoping things look up in the near future.

That is Taggert Lake in the Grand Tetons. We waded in it, and it felt great. Later in the day as we warmed up, we actually went swimming in Bradley Lake and Jenny Lake. It was such a glorious day

I love the Tetons! When I was there I bought a T-shirt that said ‘Grand Tetons’ right across my boobs. Heehee.
Don’t worry, you will get there again! Until then, St. Lo sounds like fun!

I so know how you feel! I used to be a travel fanatic before marriage but have been confined to only one trip a year now due to additional ‘being-a-responsible-adult’ costs. Sigh.
Hmmm, on the bright side, the US has a variety of holiday locations right? In Singapore, erm… I won’t even start on how we’re deprived!
But then again, the grass is always greener on the other side right?
