Good Riddance, August!
Posted on August 29, 2011 4 Comments
I’ll be tremendously happy for August to be over. It has been one expensive month. My TV and DVR broke due to the weather (see post below), I lost the special Tiffany ring that man-friend gave me (the good-luck one that he took to his bar exam), and to top it all off, some jerk face hit my car and drove away so now I have to get that fixed, too. All this on one income (because the job market for man-lawyers stinks) means no trips or other splurges for a while.
Hello sandwich lunches, good-bye lunch outings. Hello beer at home, good-bye happy hour (like we were doing that anyway lately). Hello…. well, you get how this goes. Super frugal savings mode begins again for Sept-Oct-Nov.
Thank god I have savings. Thank god. And my health.

I lost the Tiffany necklace my ex gave me. We are good friends now, so it’s not like I’m pining for him and that’s why I kept it – it was genuinely my favorite necklace (very simple) and I wore it every day. Now I’m debating whether to spring for a replacement, or buy a Chinatown knockoff for $10 rather… I feel your pain

Yeah, the ring was just special, and I too wore it every single day for 2 years. Plus it was a gift, so even if I replace it, it’s just not the same

I am so sorry about the ring–that is terrible.
I feel your pain about August. I just told my husband this weekend- I feel like this is the month that never ends. What is the deal?

I hear ya, Nicole. I’m so sorry about the ring.
And the TV/DVD thing was a bummer, too, but these things happen.
I’m here in East Texas: record-breaking drought and heat wave. My last electric bill was $308 (and this after hubby added insulation in the roof). I am ready to see August come to a close for many, many reasons.
Good luck and keep your chin up, and remember that the pendulum does, eventually, swing back.
Now that you have your DVD and TV situation settled, hubby and I always find inspiration when we watch the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. “Casablanca” always gives us a lift, too.
Good luck!
