Summer Poll

Posted on June 3, 2008 14 Comments

It’s the first day of the meteorological summer! So I’ve decided to celebrate with a random poll. Tell us: if you had an extra $50 this summer, what would you spend it on? I’ve listed a few options with my very unscientific poll here and I’ve decided to be very rigid. You can only pick one of these, so if they don’t appeal to you, pick the closest. No wimpy “none of the above” options in my make-believe land of happy $50 for all. No sir.

Or you can just, you know, write it in the comments. But take the poll first, and then tell me how you’d rather spend an extra $50 if someone approached you with it right now.

My extra $50…

Consequently, I did get an extra $50 this summer as a gift, and I spent it on … gas. In May (ok, still technically spring) I traveled to Wisconsin with my mom to visit my aunt and donated $20 towards the trip. The rest was spent at Mars’ Cheese Castle off the 94 expressway outside of Kenosha (aka the best place on earth), where I loaded up on cheese curds, summer sausage and New Glarus Beer – a virtual cornucopia of Midwestern delight – before heading to my aunt’s to chill by her firepit and watch my little cousins catch bullfrogs.

If that’s not $50 well-spent, I don’t know what is.

And here is the rest of it.

Mars Cheese Castle is awesome. With all those samples, you don’t even need to eat lunch!! I can’t resist not stopping anytime I am heading north on 94

I would be using it to pay a bit off my mortgage – it wouldn’t make that much difference, but each little bit helps!

I put that I would save it but this summer I would probably use it to travel — I’d love to get to Boston and see some friends and that could cover the bus ticket and at least one meal. Of course, I would have to save more than that to actually make the trip, but I’d rather do that than buy clothes (for now).

I’d probably use it for a haircut (I really need one), or I’d use it to take my boyfriend out for a nice dinner. Or maybe I should get a birthday manicure?

I voted clothes because I’ve lost some weight and need some basics but that’s like voting to spend my bonus money on bamboo under my fingernails. I hate to shop, especially for clothes. If I had my druthers I’d spend it on eating or drinking on a patio somewhere with my friends.

I voted that I would save it, but that’s only because you didn’t have an option for paying off student loans, credit card bills or other bills.

I know, I know! I was being frivolous with my daydreaming, LOL!

I see. No problem. Maybe if I hadn’t been so frivolous with my twice a year haircut/do, I wouldn’t have to put it toward bills that resulted from said haircut :) . Hope this makes sense.

I said I would save it in the poll, but if I were handed $50 tomorrow I probably use it for a ‘free’ night out on the town.

I put save it but only because I have a ridiculous credit card bill to pay down. How did it get to this? 5300. That or student loans, but realistically, the credit bill comes first.

Wow, shocking–saving won, followed by clothes! I put food. Lame, lame, lame. My rational was, the value of money is declining, I have clothes, but food we can always use.

getting photos printed or buying a photo printer (but then I’d need ink and paper). I take a ridiculous amount of photos only get a few printed for my projects because it adds up spending .12-.20/print

I voted that I would save it
