Tax Time

Posted on April 6, 2008 10 Comments

Phew! My taxes are filed. I’m glad to be done with them for the year. If you haven’t filed yours yet, get moving. You only have about a week left!

I filed my taxes using H&R Block online. As many of you know, my lovely Aunt Mary usually files mine for free, but I ran out of time to send them her way this year so I filed online. For those of you accustomed to having financially savvy relatives or friends do your taxes, the experience was little daunting; I wasn’t 100 percent certain I did everything right. Still, it was very convenient to file, took less time than making a trip to the nearest tax place and included a computer-generated error checking system, which comforted me a bit. It was difficult, but I only filed a 1040-A. I’m sure if I had more complicated finances, I’d use a professional.

So… now that you’re all filed, what are you doing with your double whammy tax return and tax refund this spring? I’m predictably putting into the savings account, which will be a nice bump towards helping me achieve my savings goals this year, but I’m sure others have bigger, more exciting plans (exotic vacations? new refrigerators?). Share them!

I owed this year and have paid! I wish there were fancy vacations to go on! The economic stimulus check will be going towards paying down credit cards. So boring LOL

With what I’m getting back from that feds I’ll be able to pay the state and the accountant (I LOVE having an accountant) and have some left over. I usually try to save half and do something fun with half. Not sure what fun thing I’ll do this year. Maybe pants that fit my newly skinny body. I have one pair of pants that fits properly.

I am hoping that I get a refund, but with me not working that doesn’t look too promising. But if we get any money back we will buy some new couches that we have needed for three years now and the rest will go into saving.

Part of it will help pay for my wedding and the rest goes to credit card debt. :(

Um…I owed $2,000+. Those restricted stock shares can be a killer…

Make too much to get a rebate. But the refund will be sizable due to business losses and tons of deductible expenses. I can’t remember the last time I took the standard deduction.

    *shrug*

I will be saving saving saving. We have sucessfully paid off ALL consumer debts in the last year and it is refreshing to be able to use our refund as we like.

Putting mine towards credit card debt/wedding/honeymoon. It’s sad to see that chunk of money be deposited and gone within the blink of an eye.

There is also a new “credit” this yr!! It involves persons who paid real estate tax but cannot itemize on their return. The will be allowed an additional $1000 on their standard deduction for this. You can also get information about Currency rates
