Why … Wii?
Posted on February 18, 2008 10 Comments
Might my wallet have a way of warning me when I’ve become to frivolous with my coin? Nah.
But is it a coincidence my computer screen turned yellow on the same day I bought a Wii? Hmm. Interesting.
Seeing my computer screen turn a funky shade of daffodil, I’m cringing about buying the Wii. Should I return the unopened Wii to save some money? I mean, I have enough to both fix the computer and keep the Wii. But do I really want to spend that much on technology this year? Is the Wii absolutely necessary? Will I even have time to play the Wii?
I’m confused. Luckily my aunt has an extra monitor lying around that I can use to test whether it’s my screen or the actual computer causing the problem. If it’s just the monitor, I’ll keep the Wii and crazy fun will ensue. However, if it’s my computadora, I say bye-bye to the Wii and upgrade my technological capabilities.
I feel so Wiishy-washy. (hee-hee)

hmm, wiis are really fun. I don’t have one, but a few friends do.
I guess I’m struggling with money/technology, too. My laptop straight up died, and so I’m looking to replace it. But man, there are so many choices, and such a wide range of prices!
Well, hopefully it’s just the screen…or a setting that just needs to get switched back.
good luck!
I would say that if you’re going to be using the Wii for fun and for social events, keep it. Having people over for fun is probably cheaper than going out a lot…maybe?
I’m just trying to justify that Wii for you!

You might also want to check whether you have a bad cable too. It’s cheaper than a new monitor.

You sound like you want the Wii -and- you can afford it. Why not just keep it and use the monitor your aunt gives you. Or keep it and fix your monitor, because you’ll probably just end up buying both later on. Though, if was a personal opinion instead of an objective one, I’d say to take back the Wii. I was bored of the thing within two days. Get an Xbox 360 instead

as someone who desperately covets one, but isn’t brave enough to spend some money on it.. my (totally unbiased!) opinion is to keep the wii, keep the wii, keep the wii

You guys are so persuasive! I hope you’re not all Nintendo executives, LOL!

Sometimes screens turn weird colors because of a loose connection. Unplug and re-plug the wires before you panic.

I’ve gotta disagree with all your wii lover’s advice if its not just the monitor. If I were in Nicole’s place and had to get a new computer because its more than the monitor I’d be returning the wii. Its hard for me to part with money and together that’s a lot of money for technology gadget at one time.
My fingers are cross for you thought that its just a monitor issue.

Not sure what kind of computer you have but if it’s not the monitor, it may just be the video card, which is usually cheaper to replace than a whole computer or a monitor.
I’ve found newegg.com to have good prices. I had the same issue with my computer and I ended up replacing the video card. I think it cost me around $40. I just took the old card out, put the new one in and it worked fine.

Yeah, the techonology thing sometimes throws me for a loop. I’d much rather spend the money on a plane ticket or road trip (see above) but it definitely helps to have something to do when the weather’s bad, or you want to grab a bottle of wine and a friend and stay in to save money for the night. When you think about it, a Wii is really about 3 or 4 nights out in the city. Doesn’t sound like much when you think about it that way…

I have been debating whether to buy wii as well. But for now, I have decided to wait till I actually purchase a house and make it part of the “game room.”
