SoOdd in SoHo

Bouncing around like a ping-pong ball across the country has its perks: Tonight I’m experiencing Halloween in SoHo (in NY), where an unending parade of costumed 20-somethings cavort through the streets as I write.

Searching for a cup o’ tea after dinner at Lucky Strike, I noted several plush penguins waddling running down the street, presumably in search of the next party, followed by two stealthy ninjas. When I stopped for a red light, an angel on a bicycle pedaled past, shrieking at the sight of a devil in vinyl, waiting to cross the street with me, palling around with the pope. I eventually found tea (and pumpkin pie) at The Cupping Room (i think), but not without seeing a greek goddess and a bloody Jesus on my way back to the SoHo Grand Hotel.

Speaking of, for a one-night stay, this hotel room is costing as much as I pay for one MONTH’s rent in my apartment. And it’s the size of my bedroom. It’s a lovely hotel, in a great location, but geez! I’d never pay this much to stay in a hotel for one night. (If anyone from my office is reading this, I booked REALLY late and it was the only place left.) No wonder I can never afford to visit New York for pleasure… I can’t stomach the cost!

Well, I’m signing off after a very surreal evening. I have to make a major to-do list, which includes paying all my bills this weekend (shudders), faxing my flex pay health forms over and reading up on some investment literature. Yay, finance.

The Soho Grand is VERY swank, lucky you! I was just thinking about the Cupping Room yesterday, I used to go there a lot when I worked in a theatre nearby. Glad you got to experience Halloween NYC style!

I’m sure it was booked up already, but the Pod Hotel in Midtown has pretty reasonable rates and it’s not a bad place to stay, either. Might be an option if you wanted to go back for pleasure. Of course, crashing on a pal’s futon is always a cheap option, too (I did that when Delta stranded me in NYC last spring – good times!)

How cheap is your rent if the 1-night hotel stay costs as much as 1-month rent????

I can’t imagine the hotel is costing you more than $600 for the night. Do you pay less than that on rent???

Damn Chicago is cheap. Midwest prices I guess.

Yep, less than $600 for rent. That’s why I can never move.
