Business Time

J.Crew, purveyor of pleasantly preppy work clothes, priced me out of their shopping target a few years ago. With sweaters and pants consistently running more than $100, it’s no longer a store I can afford. Which is sad, because J.Crew happens to have some of the coziest sweaters and softest corduroys around.
Until, that is, the Women’s Sale at the Mall of America. For the regular price of a cashmere sweater, I got:
- Two desperately needed slim fit, button-down work shirts
- One casual “vintage” thermal shirt
- One corduroy skirt
- One jersey going-out dress
How I love doing business in Minneapolis.

i hear ya on jcrew’s prices going UP! i mean, i understand why some things are expensive (shoes- made in italy with really good leather, etc) but still. when their stuff goes on sale its still final sale with no returns, etc. so what if it doesn’t fit? makes me too scared to even buy sale stuff.

I love JCrew also but even their sale prices are high. I do have several of their suits but I am done with them for the time being.
I think they have an outlet still at Michigan City and maybe Aurora but I’m not sure.

I agree with you completely–seems like I used to get something J Crew on sale every now and then, but not now. Glad you found a super sale!

Wow, lucky you — great sales find! I can remember when J.Crew was one of the better and least expensive clothing catalogs around. My mom was a single mom with 4 teenagers and J.Crew was one of her favorite sources for clothes for us. I recently rediscovered J.Crew while looking for sources of men’s sized clothing for my quickly growing 13-yo son. He fell in love with their “broken-in” tees but they’re $24.50 each! I was lucky to find a few on sale and paid that much for 3. But I think the sale was a fluke — even now, in late October with snow on the ground — the store here is asking full price for those short sleeved tees.
