Moving!
Posted on July 17, 2006 14 Comments
It looks like Brian and I are going to move to Naperville sometime in the VERY near future (like Aug. 15). For a city girl like myself this was an incredibly hard compromise to reach. I’ll write more on the subject soon, but for now I’ve gotta figure out how to find a decent apartment (that allows pets, that’s near the train and the downtown area) in a sprawling suburb, pack all my crap, find movers, figure out my new budget and stop crying about it all!
I also probably need to get a DRIVER’S LICENSE sometime too, since I’m going to be so suburban now. Oh the drama!
PS- Did I mention that I turn 27 on Thursday? Too bad I won’t be in town to celebrate; I’ll be on a plane for work

I live on the east side of Aurora near route 59. If you need any advice on anything in the area, let me know. Great area, but I agree, it’s no Chicago.

You have a lot to do in a few weeks, good luck!
I hope you have a good birthday, despite being on a plane. Mr. Savvy just turned 27 a couple weeks ago. Birthdays seem to get overshadowed by the rest of our lives as well get older.

actually i love naperville. I am from toronto canada, i make it a point to visit chicago twice a year to eat and shop. recently instead of staying dt in those pricey hotels on mag mile, i have found naperville to be the perfect compromise for travel vs eating and in between dt and the big outlet mall in aurora. Other must stops for me are fry’s electronics in downers grove. haha. I ate in dt naperville at catch 35, and enjoyed the food and the little neighbourhood. Congrats on the move. I read your blog daily and have also started my road to increasing my net worth and personal finances. I love chicago.

Of all the suburbs in Chicago, Naperville is certainly very nice. Oodles of shopping, but it does suck to take the tollway into the city (if you are driving). Cha-ching! I went to school at UIC (so familiar with downtown living – I miss Giordano’s!), but also lived in suburbia. Have you looked at apartments yet? Lots to choose from with good professional management.
I look forward to hearing your experiences!

And even better news. Money Magazine lists Naperville as the #2 place to live. Check out http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/index.html?cnn=yes

I should put you in touch with my wife!
I had a townhome in Naperville; she was a city girl through and through. We got married and she moved to Naperville. The townhome was up for sale within a year!
We didn’t move back to the city, but we didn’t stay in Naperville either. Based on your commutes, I don’t see how there could be a better choice (she, of course, would disagree with me!).

Ooh, don’t go car shopping while you’re there.
