Not Going Out Tonight
Posted on November 27, 2005 7 Comments
Sadly, I’m not going into the city tonight, even though it’s part of a rare 4-day weekend and all my friends will be out. (Because I travel for work so frequently, I rarely get to spend extra time with my friends.) I only allowed myself to go out to bars once this week to prevent overspending, and I already did – on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Instead, tonight, I’ll crack open a good bottle of wine at home, watch a movie and maybe play a board game. I’ll miss out on the fun, but I know I’ll see my friends all next weekend anyway. Sometimes, you have to suck it up for financial stability.

Definitely more cost-effective — alcohol markups in bars are ridiculous!

I wish I had followed your plan! mbhunter is dead on, I went out with a few friends of mine, bought 4 Scotch and Soda’s for everyone . . .36 bucks!

Good for you! It’s hard to do that though…

Chicago has that annoying habit of always being open and 10,000 things to do. It’s tough to say no.

BB,
I TOTALLY respect you for making the tough choices. It is amazing to me that so many people live day-to-day without even giving tomorrow a second thought. I wish more people would learn when to say when and actually put something back for the future.

I never say no to going out with friends just because it might cost me money (unless I don’t really like them
)
I also don’t spend 50 bucks at a bar on beer.
I’ll usually have 1 drink, and then just enjoy the conversation, company, jokes, etc.
If you don’t trust yourself, just bring your ID and 5 bucks (+cover if there is one) to the bar, and you won’t have to worry about getting carried away and spending more than you want.
