Blessed

Sometimes it takes a bad day to remind me how blessed I actually am.
I arrived home grumpy this evening after being chained to my desk all day and receiving a ton of work right before closin’ time. My apartment was hot and, despite all my efforts, smelled like a moldy zoo mixed with meat. I was angry, frustrated and felt sorry for myself.
After giving up hopes to hit the gym, I sat around feeling crabby and flipping channels over dinner. By chance I tuned into PrimeTime just and saw Diane Sawyer’s interviewing the always delightful Brad Pitt… in Africa.
Well, most of you probably saw the story. How can I possibly sit around feeling bad for myself knowing I have a clean warm bed, access to medicine when I’m sick, educational opportunities, a home, so much more food than I can eat… the list goes on and on. The truth is, I’m blessed and I’m thankful for it. Think about it the next time you have a bad day.
While I generally stay away from politics on this site, given the cause and opportunity, I’ll go with the shameless plug. Visit www.one.org and read up on the issues, maybe sign the petition or simply do some good. You know, in this instance, if the U.S. were a Budgeting Babe, she’d probably need to invest a whole lot more in future growth opportunities to stabilize her income and support system in more “mature times.”

Great post. I missed the show, but wanted to see it. Sorry I missed it.
Thought you’d like to see my post today on saving for weddings. You probably know a lot of this already, but just in case you don’t, you can find it at http://www.freemoneyfinance.com/2005/06/save_on_your_we.html.

I think we all do the same thing. That’s because we can only relate to our own circumstances. But, it’s good of you to notice. And yes, we do have it pretty good in the US.

We do very well here.
And we must preserve that properity for our future and our future generations.
That is why the country should do what we (personally) do:
1) Work hard to increase income (GDP)
2) Cut on superfluous expenses (Budget, Frugal, whatever you call it, but do the same with the national budget and the programs it supports).
3) Invest, invest, and invest more (buy securities in the US and in other countries as well).
Unfortunately, until most citizens get the idea of how to be finantially secure on their “retirement” years, the nation will not do.
Remember: the people governing the nation are as intelligent as the average American Citizen who elects them. The people governing the nation have the same priorities as the Average American Citizen who elected them.
Lets change the Average American Citizen mentality so that we can all prosper.
You are doing your part by publishing good ideas on how to improve our finantial well being. Keep spreading the world on how to save ourselves and our nation.
