Cheap Night

I’m proud of myself… Last night after work I went out for an extended happy hour and only spent $16.67 on drinks and dinner TOTAL! Woo hoo!

First, the girls and I drank free wine at Hotel Allegro (I think they have free wine every Friday from 5-6 p.m. for guests). Of course, I worked late so I missed out on most of the deal, but the group was clearly “on their way” by the time I got there. Good for them!

Next we went to a shady hole-in-the-wall called “Stocks and Blondes” (it sounds way worse than it is), which is really just a corner tap in the Loop. Some dude was checking IDs at the door – turns out he doesn’t even work there, jerk – who later insisted on akwardly visiting our table, despite the fact that no one would talk to him. Guys, if you visit a table of women and they completely ignore you, get a clue!

While at Stocks and Blondes, I ate a dinner of fried cheese, fried mushrooms and chicken strips (split them all with the group…bad for the waistline but soooo yummy at the moment) and drank 2 Guinesses and a Blue Moon – all for $16.67. Pretty cool.

By that time I was sort of tipsy and ready to head home, so I took the trusty train back to Oak Park and fell asleep by 10:25 p.m. on the couch in my clothes. Brian woke me up around midnight so I could wash up, put on my PJs and head to bed.

All in all, a cheap, fine night filled with great conversation and a few good friends.

I wish my nights would be that cheap!

I used to live off $60 a month in my earlier college years, now I spend more than that every Friday and Saturday alone!
