Zipped Up

Since taking over a new account at work this week, I have not had much time to do any shopping, blogging or browsing lately, much to my disappointment. I’ve been working late (past 9 p.m.) every day, causing my collapse almost immediately after walking in the door. Things should slow down after this week, but in the meantime here’s a funny story many of you can probably relate to.

Yesterday I was a mess – I was so tired, cranky and simply looked disheveled. At one point, I sat lounging on the floor of my cube, surrounded by a sea of binders, papers and a full assortment of presentations I had yet to go through. I kicked my cool pointy (and pinchy) shoes off, pulled my hair into an uneven ponytail and looked up at the ceiling, praying that God would simply organize the files for me.

At that very moment, my managing director dropped by my cube. She asked me how I was doing and I tried to make myself presentable, a difficult task when sprawled on the floor of a cube practically sobbing with humongus holes in your nylons surrounded by minutiae. I thought I was doing OK until she whispered, “Nicole, your pants….” and then looked up. At first I thought she might just like like my wool herringbone J.Crew trousers, but then….

MY ZIPPER WAS COMPLETELY UNDONE.

Great way to make an impression as a capable new account manager, huh? I promised her I would only work on the new account with my pants zipped from that point on…
