Free Credit Reports

Posted on March 1, 2005 3 Comments

It’s March 1st; that means residents of 12 more states, Illinois included, can get a free copy of their credit report. I checked mine today and appear to be free and clear of trouble. Check yours at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp.

The downside? No free credit score (you have to buy that complex mathematical formula). This leaves me wondering…

You can always take your info from your credit report and pump the info into bankrate.com’s FICO score estimator. Not exactly the official credit score, but free, and you won’t be dinged in asking for your score.

TransUnion, one of the credit reporting agencies, will let one try their service for free. All you have to do is sign up and then cancel the account within 30 days. They will give you access to unlimited TransUnion credit reports and scores!

This is probably the only way to get your credit score for free
