Reading for Budgeting Babes?

Posted on January 5, 2005 4 Comments

Since I started this Web site, I’ve been thinking about ditching my subscription to Self Magazine (the articles are always the same) and subscribing to a personal finance magazine. The only problem is, I’m not sure which publication is right for me. They’re all just so…boring. Money, Forbes, Inc., BusinessWeek…where’s all the celeb gossip and paparazzi pictures!?! Why can’t Us Weekly put out a magazine about how celebrities save, accompanied by photos of them wearing the latest Oscar gowns? That would hold my attention.

If anybody has a suggestion on which personal finance magazine is most relevant to young, career-minded women, please let me know! The December issue of Money Magazine is putting me to sleep. I’ve been looking at a drawing of two retiring chicks for a good ten minutes and have come to the conclusion that I should use my social security checks on Botox when I’m 66.

While I wait for suggestions on magazines, here are a two good sources I’ve recently read/watched for personal finance reading/viewing:

- Suze Ormon books and her show are good for beginners

- Julia Bourland’s “Go Girl Guide to Surviving Your 20′s with Savvy, Soul and Style”

I also read the Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, CNN Money, Fast Company, BusinessWeek and a host of othere news weeklies and marketing trade pubs on a regular basis because my office subscribes to them.

I’ll keep the reading list updated as I pay more attention to personal finance. Until then, please feel free to send me suggestions!

I highly recommend Investors Business Daily. It’s very pricey but worth every penny because it teaches how to use the paper to make money in the stock market. Try a free trial subscription for two weeks and see what you think.

I subscribe to Fortune.. I tried it out after subscribing to Money. I like Fortune cos it has news too, but Money seems easier to digest.. I’m thinking I may renew Money. Either way, even if you don’t read them regularly, having them around will be good, and slowly.. it’ll start to seep in. Really.

(I subscribe to Elle and Marie Claire, and a bunch of other stuff too.)

    Mezzo.
