Am I Cheap or What?: Headband Edition

Posted on April 12, 2012 9 Comments

This happened yesterday in my apartment while I was getting ready to run.

Me: This is my best headband. Not too loose, not to tight, stays in place, holds my hair back.

ManFriend: Sounds like what a headband should do.

Me: You’d think, but you have no idea how hard it is to fulfill those requirements. I must have more than 20 headbands here that don’t fit the bill. If I lose this one, I’m screwed.

ManFriend: Why don’t you just buy more of that same one?

Me: (Whining) Well, they’re six dollars or something expensive. (Pause) I feel like they should be two dollars.

Um, note to self, this is probably why I have 20 headbands I hate sitting in a drawer collecting dust. I will be adding “buy Under Armor headbands” to my next trip to the gym. Sometimes you have to spend a little more to get what you want.

    I understand exactly :-)

I spend what I consider to be an exorbitant amount for Estee Lauder “self-sharpening” eye brown pencils and eyeliner pencils. HOWEVER, I have found that the expensive ones from Estee Lauder last until I use the last little nubbin of them, but the ones I get that require being sharpened with a make-up sharpener (essentially a pencil sharpener for make-up pencils) don’t resharpen well and last me hardly any time at all.

I calculated that my cost-per-use and overall satisfaction with the pricier eyebrow and eyeliner pencils actually make them the more affordable choice in the long term.

Likewise, BioOil (for skin) and BioSilk (for hair) carry a seemingly hefty price tag, but a little goes such a long way that they really are incredibly inexpensive on a cost-per-use basis.

You know I love my Cost-per-use rationalizations! And there must be some sort of a price for satisfaction equation we can come up with.

Which version of the UA headband do you like? I have the SAME EXACT problem and pretty much have resigned myself to a multitude of clips to keep my hair back when I work out.

I found these on their website, and there’s an outlet near me I might have to check out:

Is it one of those? I appreciate the tip!

Cost-per-use is huge! Don’t buy even one more crappy headband!

Why does my computer hate me today?!! I swear I already commented your blog today. Please tell me this happens to other people, too. :/

Anyway…definitely don’t buy cheap junk to try to save money. I learned this lesson the hard way; with much bigger purchases! I bought cheap furniture thinking I was being so fiscally responsible…and now I have a broken couch. Sigh. And no money to replace it! Yay me…ha.

I think it is the mini team headband. This one, to be precise: http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/pid1217996-451

And I am laughing out loud because I went to the gym tonight and guess how much they cost… TWO DOLLARS!!! So now I can buy as many of them as I want!

Hahaha I am the same way. I have a bunch of cheap leggings and 1 pair of lululemon leggings that I love. Granted, they are expensive, but they’re my fave.

Same with headbands – I have a bunch of cheap drugstore headbands and 2 lululemon headbands that are my absolute favorite!

Great blog, adding you to my blogroll! :)

I can never bring myself to pay for the luluemon leggings even though all my $8 leggings are practically see through. Do they ever go on sale!?
