I loved the company so much, that I came back for a second year(after Soph year and after Jr year) which ultimately lead to my employment starting just 9 days after graduation. I definetly feel it was worth it, as the ad industry is a tough one. I managed to get credit for both summers (some colleges only allow 1 credit for internships, but I managed to take an "independent study" and got credit that way for the second summer).

But the 40 hour work weeks, plus a 2 hour commute each way made the summers rough, and it also was extremely damaging to my credit cards. So I ended up also working double shifts on Sat & Sun at a restaurant to stay a float.

I would recommend an internship, b/c like it's been said before it mainly is an extended interview. Now that I'm up for my 1 year review with the company I know that they too see it as more than just 1 year because I've been around so much. :) I also did an unpaid full-time interneship. I would recommend an internship, b/c like it’s been said before it mainly is an extended interview. Now that I’m up for my 1 year review with the company I know that they too see it as more than just 1 year because I’ve been around so much. :)

I also did an internship, which lead to my current job. It was unpaid, though, since I did it for credit. Costly, yes. But in the area in which I work (and have always dreamed of working), you can't get a job without experience, and you can't get experience, it seems, without these internships. I wish I had had another option, but, I guess, it turned out fine in the end. I saw that in the New York Times, and I think the author made some good points that I had never thought of. I think besides knowing someone the internship is the best way to get your foot in the door. That is how I and most of my friends got our first offers after graduation: by interning as seniors.
